Bharat Pensioners Samaj (BPS) is a conglomerate of around 650 Pensioners Associations of different
disciplines & departments including All India Services,C.G, Rlys, Defence,EPS95 etc , In addition BPS has
a strong alliance with sister organizations like AISCCON, AIFPA Chennai & NFRP Palghat. The combined
strength through its affiliates/associates & allies goes beyond 10 lakh .
Bharat Pensioners Samaj (BPS)was founded in 1955 by Justice (Retd.) Shankar Saran of Allahabad
High Court, headquartered at New Delhi. It is an All India Federation of Pensioners’ Associations of all
Central Govt; State govt ; PSUs, EPS &NPS pensioners’. It is a, non-profitable, non-political & non-
religious organization . It is member of International Federation on Ageing, Toronto (Canada){IFA} . Bharat
Pensioners Samaj (BPS) is aided by the GOI M/O Personnel, PG & Pensions-Department of Pensions &
Pensioners Welfare. It is a non rotational member of SCOVA & is also a member advisory committee for
web based Pensioners’ Portal of GOI M/O Personnel, PG & Pensions.
Bharat Pensioners Samaj has the unique distinction (i) of finding mention in UNFPA publication
“SITUATION AND VOICES / THE OLDER POOR AND EXCLUDED IN SOUTH AFRICA AND
INDIA” Issue No. 2 of 2002, p 108". and (ii) of having been accepted by the Govt. of India through press
release dated 20.09.2014 to be the largest pensioners organization in the country.
BPS has been looking after not only the welfare of pensioners & their post retirement issues, but is also
actively involving in social welfare activities for the good of civil society through the ambitious venture
‘SANKALP’ of the Ministry of Personnel, PG & Pensions. Through its Vice President (West Zone), BPS is
an active participant in the activities of All India Peace & Solidarity Organization. In 2013 Sh J.N Rao BPS,
Vice President(West Zone) carried BPS good wishes for Japanese counterparts and chaired the inaugural
session of World Conference Against A & H Bombs which was held at Hiroshima and Nagasaki from 3rd
to 10th August 2013.
BPS also afford financial help through Prime Minister’s relief fund to fellow citizens in distress and to the
really needy pensioners/family pensioners through its ‘Benevolent Fund’ run with contributions from its
members. Recently it donated Rs 1 lac to PMNRF for the assistance J & K flood victims.
As a part of its mandated role, BPS publishes a monthly Journal ‘BHARAT PENSIONER’. It also
brings out a “Pensioners Hand book” &”FAQ” whenever Pension related rules are amended or changed. It
organizes National level Conventions, periodic seminars and conferences in different parts of the country to
focus on the problems of Pensioners and other elderly citizens, participates in social events, organizes Annual
General Meetings and provides support to affiliates & members. It also awards affiliated Associations for
their exemplary work..

All pensioners and their Associations are eligible to become members/affiliates of this organization by
subscribing a prescribed fee.
